9 Ways To Promote A Healthy Lifestyle

Forever on a quest to live the healthiest life that I can & it will forever be a work in progress. Here are some tips to help motivate a healthy lifestyle!

9 Ways To Promote A Healthy Lifestyle

1– Drink Water: Lots and lots of water. This is always my #1 tip for everything in life… #aquaholic! Whenever someone tells me that they aren’t feeling good, I always counter with ‘have you drank enough water today?’ While eating clean and exercising are crucial to living a healthy lifestyle, drinking enough water is equally important. Make sure you are getting an adequate amount of water daily as well as to increase your intake if you are exercising! Struggle with drinking enough water on the reg? 2– Meal Planning & Prepping: This saves time, money because you will shop more efficiently, stress and encourages nutrition & healthier choices. While it may seems like a hassle to spend 2-3 hours on a Sunday meal prepping, it will greatly benefit you throughout the week! Think about it -> it’s so much easier and less stressful to be able to just grab your pre-packaged lunch & head out the door than it is to have to pack it in the morning! Same goes for dinner -> if you have your planned menu for the week & you prepare everything to be cooked beforehand (washing, cutting, marinating, etc.) then dinner time will be a breeze… minus the dishes! You can even prep your dinners on Sundays too, however, I prefer a ‘fresh’ meal when I get home from work which is why I just have everything ready to go when I want to cook. Meal prepping/planning will encourage you to eat healthier!

3– Choose a workout that works for you: One that you will stick to. Just because your friends go to spin class doesn’t mean that you have to if it just doesn’t do it for you. Find out what types of exercise you like, figure out what you are willing to do (wake up earlier? pay for your workouts? how far do you want to drive?), come up with a routine, and stick to it! Exercise is so important for a variety of reasons, so the sooner you create an exercise routine that you will stick to, the healthier you will be!

4– Find Your Motivation: Everyone has a reason to start living a healthy lifestyle. Maybe it’s because you are sick of having low energy or not being able to fit into your clothes or maybe it’s because it just makes you feel good. Whatever the reason, you need to figure out what your motivation is and focus on it. This is what will keep you going when it gets tough.

5– Get an accountability partner: Consistency is key to your fitness & health goals. When you have someone keeping you accountable for exercising or eating clean, you are more likely to follow through. An accountability partner can provide some healthy competition and keep things interesting. Also, if your motivation is lacking (see #4), they can help to ignite that fire again!

6– Sleep: Proper sleep patterns are linked with living a longer, healthier life. Not only does getting enough sleep boost your immune system, it also helps to prevent weight gain. Sleep deprivation slows down your metabolism, which means it will be a lot easier for you to gain un-wanted weight. Uh oh! Also, research has shown that a lack of sleep can put our ‘hunger hormones’ out of balance which may trigger overeating. No bueno! People who get enough sleep have more control over their appetite. Also, don’t you just feel better when you get enough sleep… duh! I know that for me, when I don’t get enough sleep, the chances of me skipping my morning workout are high!

7– Forgive yourself if you fall off track: Not everyone is perfect. You will have a few slip ups, and that’s okay… as long as you don’t have a pity party and get right back on track! I’m guilty of this all of the time as I tend to have an ‘all or nothing’ mentality but I’m working on it. The key is to always remember that it’s up to you to get back to where you need to be.

8– Reward yourself: Now, I’m not talking about with food or drinks because that will hinder your progress. Unless it’s healthy foods/drinks, of course! I’m talking about buying some cute workout clothes/sneakers that you just can’t wait to rock a workout in, a session with a personal trainer, trying new workout class, a massage, or even just some flowers! Seeing the results of your discipline, dedication, and determination will make your hard work more rewarding in the long run (literally haha!).

9– Create a vision board: Hang it up where you will look at it multiple times a day, whether that’s on your fridge, on the bathroom wall, or at your work desk. A vision board is a daily, visual reminder of your personal goals. If you see it, then you know it actually exists! By surrounding yourself with images, texts, and things that reflect who you want to become, what you want to have, etc., you will stay motivated to work toward achieving your goals.  I’m currently in the process of making mine (after like 3 years of saying I was going to do it… right Sandy?) & excited for the finish product!   • I am working on #6 — sleep! It’s one of those things I’ve often reported having no control over… and that’s absolutely false. So I’ve spent the last few weeks overhauling my whole sleep routine. It sucks, but it’s important.

    I think my number one tip is to find that one little deliberate change you want to make, whether it’s taking a walk around the block in the morning or drinking a glass of water with dinner. I find that making a tiny change often gives you momentum for huge lifestyle changes later.

    • Such a good tip, Rebekah! I’m definitively guilty of trying to change/start doing too many things at once then get overwhelmed and don’t follow through!
