Today is my golden birthday -> 26 on the 26th! I have to admit, I’m not that excited about this birthday. Something about 26 seems a bit scarier than 25 & I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because I don’t have my life together the way I imagined when I was 10 years old -> see #19 below. What I am excited about is buck-a-shuck later 🙂
26.2 Things I’ve Learned By Age 26
1- Fresh flowers will always put you in a better mood. Treat yourself often.
2- You only get one body so treat it right -> Eat clean & healthy food, drink lots of water, exercise, get enough sleep, laugh, and be kind to yourself. Your health is your most valuable asset. **This may be the most important one on the list**
3- Take your makeup off every night and always moisturize/use sunscreen!
4- Don’t take the people you love for granted. Tell them you love them often & spend time with them as much as possible.
5- Money isn’t everything, but budgeting is important.
6- Back up your pictures! You will regret it if you lose all your pictures from high school and freshman year of college….
7- Pick your battles wisely. The little things aren’t even worth the energy of an argument.
8- You do not need alcohol to have fun. If people judge you because you aren’t drinking then they are the insecure ones.
9- Always say yes to guacamole… and cupcakes.
10- You are allowed to outgrow people. Life is too short to waste your time and energy on people who make you feel like crap. Sometimes you need to unfollow people in real life.
11- Your parents truly are the greatest people you will ever meet. Appreciate them and know that they are always right & have your best interest in mind.
12- Don’t give up on reading. Read as much as you can. Reading is one of the most amazing escapes. It’ll help you grow into a better human. I promise. Warm tea + a good book + fresh blooms = happiness 🙂
13- Enjoy your high school & college experiences. They really do fly by and you will miss them dearly. Growing up is fun but you will miss that care free feeling.
14- Always believe in yourself.
15- You should never have to explain your decisions to anyone. Do what makes you happy.
16- The sooner you adopt a meditation practice, the happier you will be.
17- Write handwritten letters, send birthday cards (not just texts) and remember thank you notes. These are the little things that make people smile.
18- Friendship is a two-way street. People will make time for you if they want you in their life. It works the other way around too.
19- It’s really okay to have no clue what you are doing with your life. Everything will fall into place (I have to remind myself of this daily).
20- Set goals and meet them. Challenge yourself.
21- Practice gratitude daily & be obsessively grateful.
22- Saying no is an important skill.
23- Don’t compete with anyone but yourself. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Strive to be a better version of yourself every day. Always be a work in progress.
24- Drink water. Drink lots and lots and lots of water. & then drink some more.
25- Living far away from home is both scary and rewarding. You will gain an incredible amount of independence, but also realize that you took your old support network for granted and miss them dearly.
26- Who you were at 20 doesn’t define who you are at 26. Hell, who you were 6 months ago doesn’t define who you are today. Your mentality changes as your explore more of life. Never stop growing & exploring.
26.1- Dogs make everything better.
26.2- The secret to having it all is knowing you already do.
And the beauty of this all is I will never stop learning! Cheers to being 26!
