Happy almost weekend, y’all! I decided to link up with Mar, Courtney, & Cynthia for a Friday Five this week 🙂 Today’s theme is “5 Favorite Summer Foods & Drinks” but I already posted about this last summer and nothing has changed since then… besides the fact that I might love ice water even more (if that’s possible!) -> read my 5 Favorite Summer Drinks post here. So, instead of posting about today’s topic, I’m following Mar’s lead and sharing 5 Essentials In My Gym Bag!
Water -> This is pretty obvious which is why it’s #1 on the list! Whether I’m heading to the gym or out the door for a run, I always have water with me (unless it’s under 6 miles outside). If I’m on the treadmill, you bet I’ll have a water bottle with me even if it’s only for 1 mile! I bring my camelback with me for anything over 6 miles. Hydration is key to my success!
Protein Powder/Shaker -> Refueling within 30 minutes after a workout is so important. I always have some protein powder, whether it’s a single-serving pack or scoops into a small container, in my gym bag. I even bring a little lunch box with an ice-pack for my shaker because I like to use almond or cashew milk for my shakes, not water.
Headphones/iPhone Armband -> I can’t don’t like to run without headphones. Part of the reason I enjoy running so much is I love to get lost in the music while I run. Sometimes I’ll go for a ‘naked’ run, but 99% of the time I have my headphones in. Same goes for strength training—I need my music!
Sweat Towels -> I sweat like a maniac.. no shame in my game! I don’t mind it when I’m running outside, however, when I’m at the gym I always have a sweat towel to wipe myself. I can’t stand dripping sweat at the gym for some reason.
Believe Training Journal -> I love completing a workout & writing it down in my believe journal.. it makes me feel so accomplished. This book is filled with knowledge and insight from Lauren Fleshman & Roisin McGettigan-Dumas’ own personal experiences as runners, and is built to inspire, build confidence, educate, and help athletes prepare and challenge themselves. This is my second believe journal, I love it so much!
BONUS! Everything Else -> Sneakers (duh), my workout folder, yoga mat, a lock, glide (life savior), fuel for during a run/workout, and a fresh shirt & headband.
I’m obsessed with my gym bag. It’s big enough to fit everything in the above picture plus a full change of clothes/shower stuff if I’m showering at the gym, has so many pockets (laptop, water, snacks, keys, dirty clothes), has a built in yoga mat strap, comes with a shoe bag, and is super cute. I’m so glad that it’s the weekend. My boyfriend is gone for a softball tournament so it’s just me & Bruin 🙂 I’m looking forward to straight relaxing -> I’ve been feeling sick since last week (hello sinus infection), and with rain in the forecast for the entire weekend, I definitely won’t feel guilty being a hermit. I’ve got such a long to-do list that I’m excited to focus on it and not feel bad that it’s nice out & I’m inside!
