Back in March, Jason Wachob (founder & CEO of mindbodygreen, the leading independent media brand dedicated to health and happiness) released his first book “WELLTH: How I Learned to Build a Life, Not a Resume”. I stumbled across this website a few months ago and have been an avid reader since. When I saw that he was releasing a book, I knew I had to get my hands on a copy. Once I did, I literally couldn’t put it down!
In this book, Wachob writes about his personal story of believing in/aspiring towards a traditional sense of a ‘successful’ life (making lots of money on Wall St.) towards a more holistic approach of living a ‘wellthy’ life— a life exemplified by abundance, happiness, purpose, health, and joy. He blends his experiences with advice from the mindbodygreen experts to lead you through the elements of true wellth. These elements are the 13 chapters of the book: eat, move, work, believe, explore, breathe, feel, love, heal, thank, ground, live, and laugh. He introduces each element with a story from his own life to illustrate the point he is trying to make.
Throughout the book, he recounts personal stories of success and failure, love and loss, moments of grace and missteps that anyone can relate to. Wachob always comes back to how his missteps lead him to where he is today.. something I’ve began to think about more frequently now. I loved the ‘Quick Deposit Into Your Wellth Account’ part which was at the end of each chapter and consisted of bits of info related back to the chapter element. I also really enjoyed the quotes scattered throughout the books because I just love quotes!
“Many of us aren’t satisfied with just trying to accumulate the most money and toys. The good life is no longer just about the material—instead, it can be found in a lifestyle that is devoted to mental, physical, and emotional health. A wellthy existence is one in which happiness is attainable, health is paramount, and daily living is about abundance. It’s a life in which work is purposeful; friendships are deep and plentiful; and there’s a daily sense of richness or overflowing joy. But since there’s no one-size-fits-all definition for a wellthy existence, I hope this book will serve as a guide to help you embark on your own personal journey that is both unique and meaningful.”
Being in my twenties, I have really started to redefine what happiness and success mean to me which is why I feel like I read this book at the perfect time in my life. I’ve started to realize that I’m less worried about accumulating things and money and more interested in improving my quality of life and being truly happy. I know I’m not satisfied with just making money and working to live. I want to truly live my life, experience new things and have no regrets because life is way too short to not enjoy it. As I continue to think about what wellth means to me, I’ve already made changes to becoming the ‘wellthiest’ version of myself.
WELLTH aligned with my beliefs & values and left me feeling excited, inspired and with a renewed belief in myself. If you are struggling with motivating yourself to take that next important step in your life, I highly recommend you read this book.. it is well worth buying a copy to have on your bookshelf.
