There’s absolutely no other drink I love more than a big glass of ice water. Seriously. I sometimes find myself guzzling it down and literally can’t stop because it’s just so damn good. I like to call myself an aquaholic 😉 I used to walk around drinking it out of wonton soup containers because the cups in our house weren’t big enough for the volume of water I wanted to drink… those were the good days.Everyone knows (or should know) just how important water is. The average adult human body is made up of ~65% of the stuff. However, I recently read that water is the second most popular beverage in the U.S… after soft drinks! This is a frightening statistic considering just how unhealthy soda is for you. A few years ago, I decided that I didn’t want to drink soda on the reg anymore & haven’t looked back since. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some sugar laden soft drinks every once in a while (especially Mountain Dew Baja Blast), but I consider it a treat rather than an everyday beverage and try to avoid it.
The list of benefits of drinking water, and enough of it, goes on and on. Here are some that stick out to me most:
- Increase Energy & Helps Relieve Fatigue
- Zero Calories!
- Promotes Weight Loss
- Improves Skin Complexion
- Saves Money
- Aids In Disgestion
- So Incredibly Thirst Quenching!
How can I drink more water you may ask? Simple!
1- Set A Daily Water Intake Goal: Whether you already drink a lot of water & want to drink more or you don’t drink enough & need to drink more -> figure out how much you want to should be drinking daily and stick to it!
My goal has been to drink a gallon of water a day. Somedays I achieve this amount and some days I don’t which is fine because I’m still drinking more than enough. In order to be successful, I make it a point to drink a glass of water with lemon when I wake up, at least 3 nalgenes throughout the day while I’m at work, and then another 1-2 nalgenes after work. I seriously can’t get enough ice cold water!
2- Invest In A Waterbottle: That you will keep with you at all times & one that you will actually use. It’s easy to increase your water intake when it’s always with you and you’re drinking from a pretty, new waterbottle! Sometimes it may also seem less daunting to sip from a water bottle than forcing yourself to drink a big glass of water. You can even mark it up to how much you want to try to drink by certain times of the day to make it easier!
Personally, I’m a big fan of Nalgenes because they hold up to 32 oz and are big enough for plenty of ice cubes -> my favorite! Plus, I like to put stickers on mine to decorate. I actually get slight anxiety if I don’t have it with me! There are bigger & smaller nalgenes available as well as ones with different tops.
3- Infuse Your Water: Sometimes people don’t like to drink water because they find it so plain and boring. Well, spice it up & add some flavor then! Experiment until you find the perfect combination that you love to drink 🙂
4- Choose Water Over Other Drinks When Dining Out: Even if you don’t eat out frequently, getting into the habit of choosing water when doing so will not only increase your daily intake but is also less calories & will decrease the bill!
5- Use An App: Of course there’s apps to track your water intake! Your Smart Phone already manages most of your life, so why not let it handle your drinking water needs as well!?
“Waterlogged” is an app I’ve dabbled with & it’s pretty cool even though I don’t use it regularly because I’ve got my water habits down pat. It keeps track of how much water you’ve drank and applies it to your daily goal.
6- Use A Straw: Somehow, sipping through a straw helps you drink more water in a short amount of time. Don’t believe me? Try it out for yourself! Plus, you can buy really cute straws to use like these 🙂
7- Drink A Glass Before Every Meal: Not only is this an easy way to increase your water consumption, it will also make you feel more full sooner as well as aid in digestion!
I challenge you all to a 30 day water challenge -> make it a point to drink 64 oz a day for the next 30 days & I bet you will see an improvement in your life!
